Keep up with us on our six month adventure to the other side of the world. We may have very well lost our minds, but that won't keep this from being the trip of a lifetime. We hope you'll join us!
IT HAD TO HAPPEN

So as you can see from the picture, our trip back to Auckland was a little more eventful than we had planned it to be. Ever since we got to New Zealand, Seth had been looking forward to driving down State Highway 25 along the west coast of the Coromandel region. We had heard it was a beautiful drive similar to Highway 101 back home. He even rigged up our video camera by velcro-ing it to the dashboard so he could video tape the whole thing. But after all that effort, we didn’t make it more than 2 minutes (if that) down the road until bam! … flat tire.

But as things always seem to go with Seth, we couldn’t have gotten a flat tire in a better place. On this very narrow, windy road, there aren’t many places you’d like to pull over to change a flat tire, but we somehow found ourselves in the perfect spot. Lots of room on the side of the road, and the setting was gorgeous … of course. Problem was, we had no lug wrench to get our tire off. So we flagged a passing car down (very easily, I might add) and two very nice off-duty police officers helped us out. Then we ran into problem number 2 - our spare tire that came with the car didn’t fit. Luckily the policemen felt obligated to help us out, though, and Seth was able to ride with them to the nearest town and get our tire fixed. Meanwhile Burton, Sarah and I had a nice picnic lunch on the side of the road. With a new tire in hand, Seth was able to hitch a ride back to us without any problem, and off we went. We did start the video camera again, but thankfully Seth eased off the gas peddle a bit this time around.

We made it back to Auckland without any more problems, and enjoyed one last night with Burton and Sarah before sending them on their way to Australia to begin their travels for the next 3 months.
