BOTTLENOSE DOLPHINS
With less than two weeks left in New Zealand, we finally made our way north of Auckland to the beautiful Bay of Islands. If you’re looking up photos of New Zealand online, chances are you’re looking at photos of this area. Stunning coastline dotted with over 100 small islands (many undeveloped) surrounded by deep blue waters are a photographer’s dream, and was certainly one of the draws for us to come to this country.
We only had two days in the area as we knew we had to get back to Auckland to sell our car, but we were lucky that weather cooperated with us. The best way to see the Bay of Islands is by sea, so we took one of the half-day cruises out onto the water. The boat took us around many of the island as far north as Cape Brett and Piercy Island. And we were lucky enough to stop a few times as pods of bottlenose dolphins played around our boat.
We then headed back to Auckland where we had to begin the week-long process of selling Sir Emerald Norgay. We’ve had a great time these past 4 months, but it’s now someone else’s turn to take a ride.
